Paralegal
Job Description
Talis Group’s company client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Paralegal to join their litigation team, focusing on insurance defense and medical malpractice matters. The ideal candidate will possess strong litigation support skills, a solid understanding of medical records and terminology, and the ability to manage complex case files in a fast-paced environment.
This role involves close collaboration with attorneys, clients, experts, and outside vendors to ensure efficient case management and high-quality client service.
Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and trial.
- Draft, proofread, and finalize legal documents such as pleadings, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, medical chronologies, deposition summaries, and trial exhibits.
- File legal documents electronically in state and federal courts.
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files in accordance with firm procedures.
- Track case deadlines, court dates, and discovery schedules.
- Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses to obtain necessary information and documentation.
- Obtain, review, and summarize medical records and billing records.
- Prepare detailed medical chronologies and timelines for attorney review.
- Communicate effectively with medical experts and assist in expert report preparation.
- Analyze claims files, insurance policies, and related documentation.
- Assist with investigation and evaluation of liability and damages.
- Prepare reports, discovery responses, and trial notebooks for defense cases.
Highlighted Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in insurance defense and/or medical malpractice litigation.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal court procedures and e-filing systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and case management software
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a legal team.
- Experience summarizing large volumes of medical records and discovery materials.
- Familiarity with trial preparation and assisting during trial.
- Prior experience communicating with insurance adjusters and medical experts.
