Talis Group’s client, a well-established & respected insurance defense and medical malpractice law firm in Lexington, KY, is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join their litigation team.  This full-time, direct-hire role (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, onsite) offers a salary range of $60-65k, plus full benefits, PTO, and a reasonable 1,400 annual billable requirement.  The firm is looking for a candidate with 3-5+ years of experience in insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, worker’s comp, or related litigation.  The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in supporting attorneys through all stages of complex cases, including drafting pleadings and managing medical records and terminology. 
This role involves close collaboration with attorneys, clients, experts, and outside vendors to ensure efficient case management and high-quality client service.


Highlighted Duties:

  • Support attorneys throughout all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and trial.
  • Draft, proofread, and finalize pleadings, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, medical chronologies, deposition summaries, and trial exhibits.
  • File legal documents electronically in state and federal courts.
  • Organize, maintain, and update physical and electronic case files in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Track and manage case deadlines, hearing dates, and discovery schedules.
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses to obtain necessary documentation and coordinate case activity.
  • Obtain, review, and summarize medical records and billing records.
  • Prepare detailed medical chronologies and timelines for attorney review.
  • Communicate effectively with medical experts and assist in expert report preparation.
  • Review and analyze claims files, insurance policies, and related documents.
  • Assist with liability and damages evaluations and prepare trial notebooks and discovery materials.

 

Highlighted Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in insurance defense, medical malpractice, injury, worker’s compensation, or similar litigation required.
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal court procedure, including e-filing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and case management software.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple cases & deadlines.
  • Experience reviewing & summarizing large volumes of medical & discovery records.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a legal team.
  • Familiarity with trial preparation and supporting attorneys during trial.
  • Prior experience interacting with insurance adjusters and medical experts preferred.
