Purchasing Agent - Construction
Job Description
Talis Groups’ client is a well-established and growing residential home builder based in the Jeffersonville, IN area, known for their quality craftsmanship, efficient processes, and commitment to customer satisfaction. With a strong pipeline of projects and a reputation for excellence, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Agent to join our team and help drive continued success.
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing materials, negotiating with vendors, and managing purchase orders to ensure our home construction projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. This role works closely with our construction, estimating, and accounting teams to maintain strong supplier relationships and keep projects moving efficiently.
Salary: $55 - $65K + full benefits package including 401K.
HIGHLIGHTED DUTIES
- Solicit bids and negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers and subcontractors
- Issue and track purchase orders for materials and services to prevent delays in construction schedules across multiple job sites
- Monitor and manage costs to maintain budget targets
- Evaluate vendor performance, resolve issues, and maintain a reliable supplier network
- Collaborate with construction managers and estimators to forecast material needs
- Maintain accurate records, budgets, P.O.s, price lists, and vendor agreements
- Address and resolve discrepancies, delays, or shortages
HIGHLIGHTED REQUIREMENTS
- 2+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in residential construction or a related field
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Proficiency in construction purchasing software or ERP systems (e.g., Buildertrend, Sage, or similar)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
